At Holy Trinity Brussles we are delighted to be launching a new project that will look at the subject and process of peace, reconciliation and conflict transformation. In its intitial stages, we will be providing training on conflict transformation to those who wish to participate at Holy Trinity. Linked to our membership of the Community of the Cross of Nails and Mennonite Mission Network (USA) we wish to promote a Christian culture of reconciliation, peace-building, and mediation at Holy Trinity Brussels and beyond.
It is an invitation to those who wish to learn more about conflict transformation in order to firstly be able to deal personally with all kinds of conflicts and secondly to help in conflict process transformation towards peace and reconciliation; and thirdly, in due course, become a trainer in conflict transformation. The final objective of this programme is to have a group of people in HTB able to carry out the process of mediation and reconciliation in their personal lives, in their families, at the church and in their workplaces.
Love is the key to every closed door
The specific goals of the project are:
- Enable a better understanding of how authentic peace and reconciliation can be experienced in practice, using Christ as an example
- Enable participants to develop their capacities and confidence in their learning, oral, written and communication skills in peacebuilding and reconciliation in their daily lives.
- For migrants (especially children), being able to provide them with tools to better understand their host Western society.
- For “Westerners”, to enable them to better understand the origins and cultures of Africans, Asians and Middle Easterners, for example, and to listen to them.
- Enable people to see diversity in a positive way, fostering acceptance and mutual respect, despite differences of race, age, gender, language, political beliefs, culture, sexual orientation, mode of expression of worship, styles of communication, etc.
- Allow diversity to unite around a common goal and be an inclusive community, which avoids, for example, cultural clashes as far as possible.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This training is intended for all young people and adults, members of HTB and other members of sister churches, who feel they can be a channel for the joy of life. They will help in a world that needs peacemakers and will want to dedicate part of their time to learning about this beautiful and noble mission, following Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace. A final certificate will be awarded to those who have completed the entire programme – and each level of it.
